Who We Are

We invite you to First Congregation United Church of Christ. We welcome all who are looking for a faith community to join us on this journey of life and faith.

OUR VISION IS

to provide the Ottawa area with a progressive,

open Christian faith community, where all are welcome to join to walk with God

and with one another in the journey of life;

to find meaning, spiritual nourishment and service opportunities,

through a faith that is not oppressive but liberating,

not guilt-ridden but healing, not ridge but questioning.

We declare ourselves to be an Open and Affirming congregation and as such we believe that Christ came into the world to be God’s example of unconditional love for all people. Following this example we acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of the human race. Persons of all races, religious backgrounds, sexual orientations, mental and physical disabilities, economic or marital status are welcome into full membership. All who seek a faith community are invited to join us on this journey of life, faith, and fellowship.

The United Church of Christ believes

in the responsible freedom of the individual to pursue an understanding of faith that is informed by the faith statements of those who have gone before.  Because faith can be expressed in  many ways and grows within the individual at a unique pace, there is no test of faith that is required.

We believe that the bible is a source for understanding the good news and that "there is yet more light and truth to break forth from God's holy word."  The motto for the United Church of Christ is "That they may all be one."  This motto reflects the spirit of unity on which the church is based and points toward future efforts to heal the divisions in the body of Christ.
